Slay With Clay!
Clays like pink, green, white, yellow, red and rhassoul are blowing up in the beauty industry. Today it is used in products like cleansers, masks and scrubs. It's gained popularity due to its ability to cleanse and detoxify skin. At Wild Prairie, we use French pink clay in our Geranium Renewal bar and French green clay in the Juniper Clarifying. We love clay. It is truly a super ingredient. But what exactly is it and how does it work?
Clay is a combination of naturally-occurring, earthy minerals derived from weather-beaten volcanic ash, rocks, soil or sediments. Depending on its source, each clay has a unique blend of minerals- such as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and silica. This mineral-rich powder is used in skincare for its absorptive ability, clarifying properties, and because it restores essential minerals to the skin.
Neat! But how does this natural wonder work its magic? Well, when mixed with water, clay molecules have a negative charge, which causes it to function as a magnet. It attracts positively charged microparticles from every pore, drawing out impurities and toxins. Clays can absorb up to 50x their weight in moisture, which is what allows it to absorb excess oil best. Where applied, clay stimulates circulation and pulls blood to the surface of the skin, promoting cell healing and regeneration. This boost in circulation reduces inflammation and facilitates tissue reparation, leaving behind an even and glowing complexion!
There are many well-known advantages of using clay. Its ability to mattify oily skin, draw out pore-clogging impurities, and soothe sensitive skin types are only a few. Did you know that French clay is a gentle exfoliant that removes dead skin cells and replenishes moisture to the skin, minimizes the appearance of pores, and reduces congestion that leads to breakouts? Clay is a skincare superhero!
We use two types of French clay at the soaperie- pink and green.
The Geranium Renewal bar uses the healing power of pink clay and geranium oil to improve the appearance and feel of sensitive, mature and irritated skin types. These super ingredients work hard to even skin tone, moisturize and soften, and smooth the appearance of wrinkles. The combination of French pink clay and geranium oil results in supple skin with enhanced elasticity and a youthful glow!
Our Juniper Clarifying bar is a must-have if you suffer from oily, acne-prone skin. French green clay is exceptionally absorbent, it effectively decongests, tightens and minimizes pores, lowering the risk of breakouts. It also exfoliates dull skin to reveal a new layer that has a refreshed and healthy glow! Juniper oil is a natural antiseptic, which kills bacteria that can clog pores and cause breakouts. It also helps to regulate hormones and discourage acne caused by hormonal imbalance. Together juniper and green clay clarify and cleanse skin, leaving you feeling confident!
Clays offer benefits and are suited to all skin types and concerns. We enjoy using it at the Soaperie because it lends a luxurious, smooth texture to our soap bars. Trust the power of nature to heal your skin and leave you feeling fresh-faced. Slay with clay!
